Internship Opportunities

Downtown at Sundown has ONE Lead Intern and up to THREE Event Day Interns every year!

Downtown at Sundown (DT@SD) is a collaborative, community event featuring a festival like atmosphere with LIVE music, food and drink vendors, retailers and sponsors. In order to make this festival a success, DT@SD offers internship opportunities for students. Specifically, we are looking for four students to help assist with festival set-up and tear-down, event logistics, social media, volunteer coordination and general festival planning and execution.

This internship is a hands-on, real-life experience you can’t get anywhere else in Brookings. We’re looking for people who are hard-working, have a great attitude, want to learn more about event planning, and have no problem communicating with city employees, members of the community, vendors, sponsors, bands, etc.

LEAD INTERN

  • The Lead Intern is a part-time position (roughly 20 hours a week, and more on event nights) paid hourly beginning in May well before the event season starts. The position continues through to the end of the series in late August. This position is primarily responsible for managing this website, creating a social media content calendar, implementing the DT@SD marketing plan, and conducting and managing an inventory management system.

    • This position must commit to all seven concert nights.

    • Experience in marketing, hospitality, consumer affairs, advertising and event promotion is helpful to the job, but not required.

EVENT DAY INTERN

  • The Event Day Intern is a stipend position for working all seven concert nights. As an Event Day Intern, your primary responsibility is to assist with festival set-up and tear-down, as well as work with the event planning committee, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and community partners. This position is crucial to the overall success of Downtown at Sundown.

    • This position must commit to all seven concert nights.

    • Experience in marketing, hospitality, consumer affairs, advertising and event promotion is helpful to the job, but not required.

 OVERALL REQUIREMENTS

  • Each intern must commit to the entire seven-week music series. Each event day for all interns starts at 1 p.m. for set-up in downtown Brookings. Tear-down begins promptly at 9 p.m. and usually takes one hour.

  • Other duties for all interns include bundling tickets prior to the event night, picking up event day supplies, or general tidying up.
